Pilates is a body conditioning method that works in a different way to other fitness techniques. Targeting the deep postural muscles, Pilates works by building strength from the inside out and is especially good for those with back problems, chronic long term pain or even those just wanting to stay toned and keep fit. Pilates is not the latest fad, it is tried and tested and has been around since the early 1900s when it was first developed. It is now enjoying a surge in popularity and is being developed to attract a more mainstream audience. However, in order to gain the most from Pilates, it is important that instruction is of a high standard and classes are kept small to ensure safety.
Exercises are performed both with and without specialized Pilates equipment, using resistance work to streamline and strengthen the body. All classes are tailored to fit individual needs and requirements and Pilates is recommended by many leading health professionals as an ideal form of exercise.
In order for you to gain the most from this form of exercise you will be asked to sign up for a six-week course, during which time you will be introduced to the theory, practice and benefits of Pilates. Progressive courses will then be introduced to enable class participants to develop further. Places are limited as there will be a maximum of seven people permitted on each course. Prices have been set in line with other professional organizations.
