Background of Method Putkisto
Marja Putkisto developed this technique while working at the Sibelius Academy (Finnish University of Music) and Finnish National Opera as a movement and dance teacher. Marja is a qualified Pilates instructor and the founder of the Method Putkisto Pilates and Method Putkisto professional training programmes worldwide.

Hip replacement aftercare using Method Putkisto
Two years ago at the age of 47 I had to have surgery to replace my left hip. After all clear from the hospital I was advised to do stretching exercises
to lengthen and stretch my muscles which would then improve my mobility. On the 7th January 2004 I started doing the Method Putkisto programme twice a week.
This was the first physical exercise I had done for over 10 years and I was amazed that after the first session there were no aches or pains.
Obviously there are some limitations on what type of stretching exercises I can do with my new hip, but there are so many variations of Method Putkisto stretches
I can do, this has not been a problem. My flexibility improved considerably after only 3 weeks and I was able to bend over to put on my socks and tie my own shoelaces up!
The benefits of doing Method Putkisto have been very rewarding and I have no doubt this programme will carry on helping me.
