What is MP Nordic Walking?
The sheer flexibility and simplicity of Nordic Walking has meant it is the ideal tool for the personal trainer, Pilates instructor or exercise class teacher who is looking for some of the key fitness elements listed below.
A low-impact total-body workout.
Nordic Walking is particularly effective for those who desire the aerobic improvements offered by jogging or running, yet prefer the lower impact on the lower body offered by the use of the poles and good Nordic Walking technique. Nordic Walking works both the lower and oft-neglected upper body; it engages the back, abdominals, legs and arms, and reduces neck and shoulder tension. In doing so, Nordic Walking consumes more energy than ordinary walking at the same speed. Intensity of exercise can be easily managed through increasing or decreasing walking speed or through managing the effort applied through the upper body.
Easy to adapt to, and inspire, clients of ALL levels.
Nordic Walking truly is an exercise that has applications across the full range of fitness levels; at the top end, Nordic Walking is still a favoured form of off-season training for cross country skiers and biathletes, while research has shown it to be a safe and effective form of low-intensity exercise for cardiac rehabilitation patients. Being based on walking, it is a highly social exercise with participants able to maintain breathing rates and therefore conversation: an essential factor in encouraging regular participation in the activity.
The Method Putkisto Nordic Walking Instructor course is a 2-day assessed course that ensures the instructor is able to teach an in-depth 10-point technique that takes Nordic Walking from Health level, through Fitness level to Sport level walking, allowing the instructor to correct faults and adapt Nordic Walking for a variety of clientele.
